Something brought you to this site.  Maybe your spirit of adventure.  You may be just on the scent of something you think may help you navigate life’s choppy waters.  You have a sense there must be a way of living a happier, healthier life.  And you’re right.

There is a way and I’ll tell you about that in a minute.

Just to continue the water metaphor a little longer, you are on a little raft.  You may be trying to navigate difficult seas.  Let’s look at what you may be up against.  Stress at work.  Stress-related illness is very much on the increase.  Aging – yup, that’s me and all of us sooner or later.  Pain? Illness?

Or simply, things are not quite right and you’d like them to be different.  Now I don’t want to sound too depressing.  We all encounter difficult situations as we go through life and sadly, some people get more than their fair share.

Surely you’re not going to tell me you’ve found the answer to suffering

No but I can teach you about Mindfulness – how you can lead a rich and creative life with confidence and ease whatever the situation you may be experiencing.

Mindfulness has been practised for thousands of years as a way of healing human suffering and living with confidence and in harmony with life.  Because suffering is only one side of the coin isn’t it?

We also have huge potential for joy, creativity, energy, kindness and wisdom and we want to actualise more of these good things.  And mindfulness can help us develop our potential to dwell in these states too.

‘Our work over the past twenty-eight years has shown consistent, reliable, and reproducible demonstrations of major and clinically relevant reductions in medical and psychological symptoms across a wide range of medical diagnoses, including many different chronic pain conditions’

University of Massachusetts Medical School

These are some of the benefits of mindfulness-based stress reduction and pain management programmes:

  • Lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms
  • An increased ability to relax
  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved self-esteem
  • An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations.
  • What immediately?

Well, here’s just a few things you will need to be able to do first :

1.    Know how to keep sight of the BIG picture

2.   Live with ‘an attitude of moment-by moment non-judgemental awareness’ (Jon Kabat-Zinn)

3.   Change your relationship to your experience

THESE ARE A FEWASPECTS OF MINDFULNESS.  THEY DON’T JUST HAPPEN ON THEIR OWN

It takes TRAINING and commitment.  It needs practice, regular steps, so that the skills you need are embedded into your life.

This is exactly what a Breathworks course gives you – expert guidance in the mindfulness skills you need to create a programme which is right for you to bring about a lasting change in your condition.

Mindfulness meditation programmes are proving every bit as effective as drugs in the treatment of pain and drepression.  They are much cheaper and have no side effcts.  That’s why many of our health services today are training staff in mindfulness-based programmes. See research.

Also you don’t have to be any particular religion to benefit from mindfulness meditation.  It’s something everyone can and needs to do as part of their daily life.

It’s also the beginning of a healing journey.
